Rural Tech
Rural Tech BackgrounderThe Rural Tech program is a Green Hectares initiative working to meet the current demand for training to upgrade computer and web skills in rural communities. Rural Tech will provide technology labs and business-applied technology training for individuals, organizations and businesses in rural communities where additional technology is needed. The infrastructure that can be accessed currently includes:
- Mobile Computer Labs (4 labs): 6 laptops (Microsoft Office, Photoshop Elements and Adobe Reader) and 6 mice.
- Workshop Instructors
- Workshop Course Materials
Rural Tech’s mobile approach to bringing technological training and resources to rural communities sets it apart from existing organizations that require the necessary infrastructure to already be in place. As well, Rural Tech offers a “one stop shop” for organizations to quickly put together a session to begin to increase interest and skills in technology, access new technology or engage in developing better technology.
This initiative supports the Community Connector program, with the latter identifying technological program and resource deficiencies within communities, and encouraging Rural Tech resource use in Community Connector pilot communities. Currently, Rural Tech is exploring new aspects of technology and technical resources to be introduced to rural communities, ensuring future support and opportunities to individuals, organizations and businesses living and working in rural areas. The mobile programs, products, and services available from Rural Tech will serve rural communities lacking such technological resources at a local level, always working with the goal of creating connections and opportunities through technological skill advancement, developing vibrant communities that will allow their residents to shine.
